Alternative Music PlaylistsWow. I have always hated this name for a genre. I suppose it means anything "not mainstream". In the late 1980s and early 1990s "Alternative Music" became mainstream, so right there it instantly became a huge misnomer. You had little kids running around singing "losing my religion" by R.E.M. because it was on MTV 24 hours a day :) Growing up in Los Angeles, you heard a lot of this college-radio stuff on KROQ. A lot of Smiths and Morrissey, U2, R.E.M., Oingo Boingo and Violent Femmes. It sure beat listening to New Kids on the Block and MC Hammer. There was nothing more exciting than going to a school and dance and having to force yourself to break dance to Bev Biv Devoe and Young MC. That's when you went home afterwards to blast "End of The World" by R.E.M. Oh! One last thing. I want to give a big shout out to Poor Man - the genius who made KROQ what it is today. Thank you for creating Love Line (I got your back on that one homie) and thanks for Request Video! - Eddie Please help us add playlists to this page. Contact us here to find out how you can help.
