Born on July 2, 1930 in
Pittsburgh, Ahmad began
playing music at the early age
of 3, started formal studies
at the age of 7 and at the age
of 14 he joined the musicians
union. He formed his first
trio in 1950, The Three
Strings.
When the trio disbanded in
1962, he formed a new trio and
released the albums Macanudo,
Standard Eyes and Cry Young.
Ahmad Jamal, a jazz pianist,
trio leader and composer, has
been considered one of the
most successful jazz's
small-group leaders.
He has also received several
awards and recognitions
including The Kennedy Center
for the Performing Arts'
Living Legends Award, The
French Jazz Academy awards and
a lot more.
