Antonio Salieri (born 18th
August 1750) was a well known
opera composer of the 18th
century. He was an adopted
student of Florian Gassman who
was a music composer in
Vienna. Antonio treated him as
his second father. Florian
Leopold Gassman molded
Salieri’s talent in music
and composition. He soon
gained outstanding popularity
for his brilliant compositions
in Venice and later became the
most sought after opera
composer in Venice.
Antonio Salieri’s life had a
tragic turn around when both
of his parents died by the
year 1765. He was then adopted
by a rich nobleman and a good
friend of his father -
Giovanni Mocenigo. This
exposed Antonio to the world
of opera music. He began to
study music with several opera
singers such as Pacini who
happened to be a singer of
Gassman’s opera. He was
later brought to Venice and
that’s how Florian
discovered Salieri’s
incredible talent in music.
Gassman offered to adopt young
Salieri and bring him to
Vienna as a protégé in
composing incredible opera.
Antonio Salieri had an
opportunity of composing
operas under Gassman. This
opportunity was well utilized
by Antonio Salieri and he
gained much knowledge and fame
from it. He died on 7th may
1825.
