BB King is probably one of the
best blues guitarists of our
time. I know most people will
say that he just IS the best,
but those things are always
debatable.
Mr. King was born in
Mississippi and bought his
first guitar for $15 at the
ripe age of 12 (in 1937). I
want to say that he might be
one of the longest active
musicians ever. He has been
performing since 1947! You
should definitely go watch him
in concert if you ever get a
chance. The man is a living
legend!
Here is a little bit of
trivia: Did you know BB was a
licensed pilot. He was asked
to stop flying at the age of
70 because of insurance
reasons. He is also a big fan
of Frank Sinatra’s music.
His real name is Riley B.
King. He got the nickname B.B.
when we was a disc jockey at a
radio station in Memphis,
Tennessee. Well his nickname
was the “Beale Street Blues
Boy” and thus is was
shortened to B.B.
The city of Portland, Maine
has created a B.B. King day
which happens to be May 18th.
Be sure to visit the BB
King’s Blues Clue on Beale
Street if you are ever in
Memphis!
