The band members included:
Johnette Napolitano, James
Mankey, Gabriel Ramirez, Harry
Rushakoff, Paul Thompson and
Al Bloch.
Wow this band has been around
for a long time. I had no
idea. I thought they were just
from the mid 1990s. Turns out
they started in 1982. Another
L.A. Band! Yay more home town
heroes. The name Concrete
Blonde is supposed to make fun
of the big hair glam rock
bands that use to play
Hollywood in the early 1980s.
Think Ratt and Van Halen. God
were those bands ridiculous,
but I heard they had a lot of
fun back then.
The unique thing about this
band is the lead singer’s
(Johnette Napolitano) voice.
It’s kind of a tough raspy
voice. But it works well and
it makes the band very
distinguishable. They also
seem to be kind of on the
rockabilly side. Probably more
in terms of visual style than
music. But the song
“Bloodletting” is
definitely on the rockabilly
side.
The band officially retired in
2006. The message was posted
on Myspace of all places.
Wasn’t that the year Myspace
started to retire too? UPDATE:
The band is back! As of 2010.
