Doves

Doves is a band from good old
Manchester (Madchester)
England. The band has two
brothers: Jez Williams on
guitar and Andy Williams on
drums. When I hear of two
brothers from Manchester
forming a band I can’t help
to be reminded of the Happy
Mondays. Not to mention they
would frequent the Hacienda
night club. The third member
is Jimi Goodwin on bass. Jimi
is always a good first name if
you are going to be a rock
star :)

The band has a very Western
desert sound that kind of
reminds me of Calexico. That
with a bit of Radiohead in it.
Andy and Jez were in bands
starting as far back as 1981.
Doves didn’t officialy form
into a band until 1998. Prior
to that the band was
experimenting with other
genres of music including
dance music. The band was
actually somewhat happy that
the studio they were recording
in burned down and they had to
start with a fresh direction.
They chose to stay on the
Alternative music track which
they felt to be
“liberating” in the end.
