I'm not sure how it happened
but I became a huge Fela Kuti
fan around 2006. I did
randomly buy his son's album
Femi Kuti - Fight To Win back
in the early 2000s. Perhaps
that led me to Fela.
When people ask me about Fela,
I start off by telling them
that Fela is kinda like the
Nigerian Bob Marley. Which
isn't the best analogy, but he
does has that prophetic
quality to him. His music is
also that kind of sound that
grows on you. Keep listening
to it, if you smoke herb
(listen to it high) and you'll
like it A LOT after a month.
It's really colorful, it tells
a story, it's a good fusion of
70s Jazz with African beats.
