Happy Mondays

Here's a band that got lost in
the history books. A late 80s
early 90s band that spawned
from the same record company
as Joy Division. Part of the
early rave/dance scene in the
UK.

There is a pretty funny story
by Johnny Marr of the Smiths
in this playlist. I guess the
Happy Mondays randomly went
over to his house one night
and tried to kidnap him and
take him to Barbados.

I recently learned about a
particular place and time in
music called “Madchester”.
This era is all about music
that came out of Manchester
England between the late 1980s
and early 1990s. I would have
to say that Madchester is what
gave Electronic music momentum
through the 1980s and into the
1990s.

The grand venue for Madchester
music was this night club
called the Hacienda. The
Hacienda was famous for raves,
violence, drug sales and never
turning a profit. Which is
very similar to the Happy
Mondays story. For further
reference watch the movie
“24 Hour Party People”.
It’s a great flick and will
fill you in on some music
history.

This Kinky Afro song is a
great way to start off a crap
Monday though. I suggest you
cue this playlist up at the
start of ever week!
