What a dark, gloomy,
depressing band. But I love
em! I always liked listening
to Joy Division whilst
skateboarding through the
night, speeding through the
dark, brick back alleys of my
home town. Even though I lived
nowhere near England and in a
place that gets 300 days of
sunshine a year - I was able
to find an appropriate setting
to truly lets this music come
alive. Oh yeah, fog helps a
lot too.
This band. Oh this
band...hands down one of the
most influential groups from
the 1970s. Single-handily
invented Goth, pushed
electronica into the 1980s
while the whole time being a
silly lil punk band from
Manchester. And like most good
punk it took years, (well
decades) for people to realize
how amazing they were. Now
several movies have been made
about this group and their
influence (see 24 Hour Party
People, Control, and would
even say Trainspotting just
because they use Joy Division
in the soundtrack).
The lead singer Ian Curtis
committed suicide at a young
age. Apparently he has severe
epilepsy and would collapse on
stage quite often. The band
eventually morphed into New
Order and somehow spawned the
Manchester rave scene of the
1980s.
