LiLiPUT (formerly known as
Kleenex) is a Swiss female
post-punk/new wave band. The
group was formed in 1978 under
the name Kleenex and then made
a name for them. In the midst
of the risk of legal action by
Kimberly-Clark in 1979, they
are advised to change the name
to LiLiPUT (Kleenex is a
property brand of tampon in
Switzerland). The bands
original member consists of
Regula Sing (vocals), Marlene
Marder (guitar), Klaudia
Schiff (bass) and Lislot Ha
(drums). In the late 1970s,
the band recorded a several of
successful singles prior to
Sing's departure.
LiLiPUT's vigorous sound mixed
with dynamic thrashy post-punk
with irregular vocals and
lyrics both in English and
German language. The bands
music featuring the rough or
screaming female vocals,
shabby drums, disturbing and
twanging guitar, thick
unconventional bass, saxophone
and particularly flute,
violin, and other instruments.
The disturbing style and
powerful of their lyrics and
the girl-punk sound which
bring them in a league with
bands such as The Raincoats
(often tour partners), Delta
5, The Slits, Essential Logic
and Bush Tetras. The groups
sound establish during their
career, thats the result of
the changes in their members.
The previous recordings are
very noisy and powerful while
the new songs are very
disturbing and unforgettable.
