MSTRKRFT is an electronic
music group from Toronto,
Ontario, Canada; they're
signed to Dim Mak Records.
MSTRKRFT was started in 2005
by Jesse F. Keeler formerly
member of Death from Above
1979 and Alex Puodziukas
(Al-P) formerly of the
Mississauga electropop group
Girlsareshort. Al-P is also
the producer of album You're a
Woman by for Death from Above
1979, I'm a Machine as well
as several of Black Cat #13's
records (Jesse's former band).
The duo is a working
partners, for a long time.
MSTRKRFT also produced How to
Kill, and Magneta Lane's
second LP,Die Mannequin's
first EP, Dancing With
Daggers.
MSTRKRFT had been commissioned
to remix songs by several
artists such as Ayumi
Hamasaki, Death From Above
1979, Kylie Minogue,Bloc
Party, Metric, Wolfmother,
Annie, Justice, and The
Kills.
Their first single was
released in 2006 "Easy Love".
They released their second
single on July 6 "Work On
You". MSTRKRFT released The
Looks, their first LP in the
United States on July 18, 2006
and February 2, 2007 in
Britain. Keeler and Al-P told
Eye Weekly weeks before the
release of The Looks, that as
the album was being finished,
the planning stages for a
follow-up record had already
begun. Describing the upcoming
album's new direction, Al-P
said that the album would be
"darker, underground disco and
house with elements of
American rock music."
