The Nation of Ulysses is an American punk rock band. The group is fromed Washington, D.C in spring 1988 with four members only. The group consist of Ian Svenonius on vocals and trumpet, Steve Kroner on guitar, Steve Gamboa on bass guitar, and James Canty on drums. Originally the name of the band is simply "Ulysses". In 1989, Tim Green joined the band as a guitarist and the band name became "Nation of Ulysses". In the autumn of 1992, Nation of Ulysses disbanded, they didn't complete their 3rd album. After the broke up, Gamboa, Svenonius, Canty, and they continue their passion in musicand form the Cupid Car Club and The Make-Up (which don't last).
Nation of Ulysses released 3 full length albums, and 2 vinyl EPs released by Dischord Records, and was featured on a different compilation albums of several kind of record labels.
In 1991 the band released their first album, 13-Point Program to Destroy America on Dischord Records. This was followed by Plays Pretty for Baby, also on Dischord. During the recording of the follow-up to album Plays Pretty for Baby, Steve Kroner leave the band. The remaining member continued to record. but finally disbanded in 1992.
After the band's broke up, Ian Svenonius, James Canty and Steve Gamboa continue their journey to music world and form Cupid Car Club (which dont last), the Make-Up, and Weird War(Canty and Gamboa not included). Green become an engineer and record producer and joined The Fucking Champs (the prog-heavy metal band).
Although the Nation of Ulysses doesnt exist longer in music world, it influence several bands such as Rocket From The Crypt, Antioch Arrow, The Locust, At The Drive-in, LCD Soundsystem, and Huggy Bear, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, The Hives, Thursday, Glassjaw, Refused, Boy Sets Fire, Bikini Kill, and many others.
