The Newtown Neurotics
(formerly known as The
Neurotics) were an English
punk rock/post-punk group. The
band was formed in Harlow,
England in 1979. They were
known for their straight
political music.
Being the Newtown Neurotics,
they start their career
playing punk was greatly
influenced by "The Clash" and
"The Ramones". During their
progress in 1980s, the band
remove the "Newtown" from
their name and simply became
"The Neurotics" as a
consequence with the name
change comes an expand in
their styles which include
horn arrangements and slower
tempos. The band released
numerous albums on a very
known UK postpunk label Jungle
Records. Steve Drewett (Lead
singer and guitarist ) took a
straight common viewpoint in
his lyrics all over the
progress of the band's career.
When Colin Dredd (the bassist)
have the disease in the lungs
called pleurisy, he leave the
band. Mac (Travis Cut /The
Pharaohs /The Skabilly
Rebels)was bring in to play
bass for some goodbye shows
(in which the band's entire
archives was played). The
band finally broke up on
October 1988. Steve Drewett
move on to form an Afro punk
band called the
"Indestructible Beat". Despite
the "Indie Beats" split up in
1995, Steve Drewett is noted
to do particular solo gigs.
