Operation Ivy is an american
band.It was formed in
Berkeley, California, which
given credit as the founders
of the 90s punk revival in
California. They are the one
of the earliest ska-core
bands, a Opgenre that blends
elements of hardcore with ska
punk. The band members
consisted of Jesse Michaels
(lead vocals), Tim Armstrong
(credited as "Lint") (guitar,
backing vocals), Matt Freeman
(credited as Matt McCall)
(bass, backing vocals), and
Dave Mello (Drums, backing
vocals). Although the band had
exist in a little in the world
of punk music, they had an
underground following and
influenced many bands of the
90s punk revival. The band's
only studio album, Energy, has
been considered as one of the
greatest punk rock albums of
all time. The band's name was
derived from the Operation Ivy
series of nuclear tests.
In 1987 they made their debut
on a Maximum Rock'n'Roll
compilation called Turn it
Around. In January 1988, they
released Hectic, their first
EP, which became one of
Lookout!'s strongest
sellers(signed to Lookout!
Records). By this time,
Operation Ivy (along with
other Lookout Records punk
bands ) was one of the most
popular Punk bands. They
began to get many gigs and set
a tour across the United
States. Operation Ivy released
the album Energy in May 1989
on Lookout! Records . The band
disbanded the same month, and
their last show was on May 28,
1989
