It's truly amazing that these
guys are still performing.
Come to think of it, it's
amazing that they're even
still alive. From their roots
as the naughty version of The
Beatles to their incredibly
relevent presence in the 90s
with Voodoo lounge, the
Rolling Stones are the epitomy
of cool. Men dig them because
they don't make any apologies,
party like rock stars and get
any women they want (have you
seen Keith Richards
girlfriend?) Women dig them
for their androgenous moves
and British charm. They are
admired by truck drivers and
beat poets alike.
It’s strange to look back
and think that “Exile on
Mainstreet” was panned by
Lester Bangs. This is now
considered to be one of their
best albums (Bangs later
changed his mind). It’s a
quintessential rock album with
a lot of influences that
weren’t yet understood at
the time.
As far as style goes, the
Rolling Stones could be found
hanging out with Warhol as he
designed many of their album
covers. “Sticky Fingers”
is still one of the coolest
album covers around.
The Stones could rock it out
while maintained their blues
roots. Their sincerity is one
of the things that’s kept
them going for all these
years.
