It’s funny how a British
band is played at just about
every corporate seminar and
sporting event in the US.
Remarkably, no matter how many
times “We Won’t Get Fooled
Again” is played before a
commercial break during an NFL
game, it still sounds good.
That’s impressive enough to
begin with. And who hasn’t
had a moment to “Baba
O’Reilly?” As a matter of
fact, if you knew that it was
called that instead of “the
teenage wasteland song,” you
deserve an extra gold star for
being a true Who fan (or at
least a star for not being an
idiot).
Forget the fact that Pete
Townsend may come off as a
snooty patooti for a second
and let yourself get lost in
the guitar hooks. Like it or
not, he is one of the best
rock guitarists ever. Forget
about the fact that Keith Moon
(rest his soul) started a solo
career (as if you haven’t
already). He was an amazing
drummer.
“Tommy” is a
quintessential album and rock
opera. Remember, for as many
hits as there were from that
time, there were a lot of duds
and “Tommy” stands the
test of time. The beginning
riff of “Pinball Wizard”
in and of itself is enough to
hold anyone’s attention. So
tell me “Who are you?”
