To my friend Ken - Accordions
Rule!
What a wonderful band. I saw a
documentary of them a while
back and from what I remember
they have this answering
machine at their apartment
that has a different tune on
it every day. Pure genius. I
wonder if they are still doing
that.
Frank Black of the Pixies said
that he had the tape Lincoln
in his car all summer. He
listened to it over and over
again but never really liked
it until one day it hit him.
It was like viola! And he just
got them.
For those of you who don’t
know about this duo, well are
you in for surprise. All I
know is that one guy plays
accordion and I think they
both sing. They make some of
the craziest songs imaginable.
It’s really meant for nerdy
brainy people who like quirky
stuff.
They have been a band since
the early 1980s. They are
straight out of New York City.
They Might Be Giants were
tremendously popular in the
college radio circuit in the
late 1980s. I also think they
did a Malcolm in the Middle
Theme song. The only radio
station I have ever heard them
played on was KROQ in Los
Angeles.
